May 18th

We had assigned groups to work for the talent show. At first I was working on the judges tables. One of our group members got an idea to put red paper and streamers on the table and a vase of flowers in the middle. I thought that would look professional. Then I worked on the banners for the talent show. There is a lot of things to work on the talent show as far as decorations. I wonder if we can finish by the time of the talent show . Everyone is really busy.
When I found out we are going back to PPCD,Iwas so happy, because I was enjoying working with the PPCD kids.

Reflection may 17th

On exhibition we are working on our action for our issues. The talent show had more things to think about than I thought. I hope this talent show and voluntary donations will help Om team to go to World Finals for the good. I could tell from how they are involved and working hard, they really want to go to the world competition.
For our H.E.L.P bully patrol, we needed a t-shirt and we are holding a t- shirt contest, I hope the designs are good.
For the essays of the future H.E.L.P patrol the essays were not expected. I was amazed with the variety, enthusiasm, creativity, and beliefs and values of the students expressed in this essay. This showed me about who they are.
When we work with the PPCD kids I will think of this as if this could have been my little brother. I could not go to the challenger league, so I hope I could make the effort I could have made at the challenger league be with the PPCD kids.

Reflections on the issues of Exhibition

H.E.L.P Bully Patrol- before starting the bully patrol we had to research. I was satisfied with the notes and information we had got from our sources. Yet I wish we could have got more information. I learned that there is more than one way you could have got bullied. I thought it was sad when I learned 60% of the boys who bully get a criminal conviction at age 24. I am glad that we were able to get to this topic in which I was passionate about.

Challenger League and PPCD- although I was not able to make it to the challenger league game , I was given that this event was a way of boosting the self esteem of others with disabilities and that they are not different than the kids without the disabilities. I hope for the PPCD class I will be able to help the kids with encouraging activities and learning and our class action will be a success.

Time management and Sleep- We are making a book with tips for time management. Each person will be working on a page making the whole book 25 pages of tips for time management which will lead to good sleep. I hope by this action that we will spread awareness so people know how to manage our time and have a good night sleep like Mrs. Z-hicks has taught us to. I myself had time management and sleep problems in the beginning of the year.

ADD, ADHD, dyslexia- We are planning to do a play about ADD, ADHD, and Dyslexia after we do the research to the disorders. I hope the play will prove that people with the disorders are not any different but are the same people as us. I hope this will spread awareness in a good way and help us understand the disorders of our friends to raise them up.

OM Talent Show- We are hosting a talent show because it will help raise money and is very attracting. I hope the world competition team in our class will make it to the world competition because I know the OM team was really working hard to work it to the world competition. I hope this talent show will help the Om team achieve their goal of raising 10,000 dollars. “ A lack of generosity would be tragic.” Bill Gates

Exhibition of 5/5/11

we discussed things legacy lastingwe can do for topics we discussed on doing
such as bullying. We decided we can do a bully crew in search for cases of bullying .I thought of making slips for bullies to send to the teacher as a warning. We also disscussed of OM teams ,needing to earn 10,000 dollars.
we decided to hold a talent show to earn money. I thought that was a good Idea.If only Mr. Baker approves...

Issues

Next we had to choose issues that were personal to us. To me addiction was personal because in real life I was proved how easy it was to fall to addiction's trap, and how hard it is , to get out of it. Other issues were time manage ment because before fifthe grade I had a trouble managing my time , which led to Lack of sleep, another of the personal issues.
I thought for a lot of issues, we as a fifth grader can help little with issues and cannot stop many of the issues such as homelessness.
I thought me as a kid, I could maybe prevent me and wshare awareness of time management, being fit , and having more sleep.
we shared the disscussios in class and Made questions . My question about table #6 was about staying fit and it was , How are we to promote activities staying fit? we had a lot of thinking and discussion

What it Means to be Human

When we were talking of what it means to be human,
or human nature philosophy, we talked of ideas why we are here on
this world.We had many good ideas. when i found and article on a
TFK magazine,it showed one of the topics whih were : humans were meant to discover,
I presented it to the class. the article was called. Found: six lost frogs, I decided I should pick this because it explains how scientists were dedicated to find lost or rare frogs and succeeded to find the frogs.
when we were asked which of the ideas from the human nature philosophy were most used and was held on to , at first I could not see the pattern.Now that I looked at it I saw that many people did the idea we were meant to help other people discover.
I was ahaed by my classmate sophie's article because the article had shown the fierce determination of a woman without arms or kneecaps to earn a black belt .

Human Relationships

In this descriptor,I made a product on what I thought was friend, family, and community.I thought of as kinship.We looked up some definitions in the dictionary;
1. The state of being related.
2. Kinship
3. Family relationships
4.The act of telling or describing connection
5. Dealing of connection or root.
6. Human relationships such as family

Personal,physical, mental, social, and spiritual Health

On this day , we worked on diffrent healths. My group and I got social health.I thought this had to do widely with assimilation (and that were one of my ideas). We had a web with my group's ideas.

Next theme: beliefs and values

For beliefs and values,
My group and I got four values out of a belief and values sheet.They were Responsibility,hope, charity,and Prudence . Me and my group defined the words and made examples. I defined Charity.The definition was Helping and volunteer for someone less fortunate than you. After we presented all the beliefs and values,  we had to choose the top five important. I chose freedom,dedication,success,
leadership,and confidence.When we tallied our top values , the top five values were Honesty,leadership,freedom,respect,confidence,and Hope. Freedom, confidence,and leadership were my votes that were int the topws of the class. As we got the results , we were wondering how we got the results. we each got a top value and had to write what it means to you and why  you think it is the top value. after seperating into groups, My group and I got Freedom . Then we presented our five minute written essay. It states ;
We think freedom is important because you are free to choose what you please.
we think freedom got one of the top values on the class becausethen you can have more opportunity.
We also think freedom is important becausewe need freedom in this class because we need to be free to express yourself.
we think freedom is important as in gives you certain rightsto do what you choose,
To our table , freeom means we hve opportunities, can be independent, and have liberty and equality .
If we didn't have freedom things would be diffrent here.
we would never be able to be independent and have a chance of expressing yourself and people would not be treated the sme.If we didn't have freedom, we would be discriminated for expressing who we are.
Since freedom is that important,that is how we think freedom is one of the top values in the class.

First theme: inquiry to the nature of one self

In the process of dissecting the theme we had a lot of activities to understand the themes making up exhibition. We wrote what we thought exhibition was on a glog. I thought exhibition was a project, about who you are, and you and your interests and you in your community.  I thought this project is something for you to know who you are when you go to middle school.  This I thought is a project about you your conditions, physically, mentally, socially. I thought this very important   and I am anxious and excited about exhibition because this is very important because it is one of the last projects and it is showing who you are and I was told it was something you would do to show who you are at middle school.

 Then we had a chance to talk about what exhibition really is. I learned exhibition is not a project and is really a celebration of your journey through Mark Twain. I learned that exhibition has six descriptors, is student driven, and definitely not a competition.

  We went on to the first descriptor of the 6 themes, an inquiry into the nature of one self. We were talking of what the nature of oneself would be. We saw it as our personalities and your nature. Some people described how people describe the nature of themselves by writing songs. I thought of this as following what you think.

Reflection on Exhibition themes

When we were learning of an inquiry of the nature of one self, I learned that this is how we express ourselves and be our self.  Our class discussed what we thought the nature of one self. We thought of how music artists show the nature of themselves in the song. After listening to the songs we chose I got a Better understanding of the nature of one self.                                                                                                                      As we dissected the theme, we got to the next descriptor which was beliefs and values. When we talked about beliefs and values. I learned that values and beliefs were different among people when we presented different values and got the top values of the class. I learned what the class values the most was honesty and freedom. We also discussed why we thought our class had certain values. That gave me a better understanding of beliefs and values.

 The next descriptor was about physical, personal, mental, social, and spiritual health. We used the dictionary and wrote what we thought is each health.  I learned that physical health was related to the body and how you treat your body, and issues of physical health were obesity and bulimia.  I learned personal health is health about your body and having self confidence about yourself. I learned that there is many issues of lacking personal health. The issues were self- consciousness and being insecure. I realized that I had lacked on personal health. Mental health was about you mind and thoughts having good mind and finding your inner mind. One of the Issues is depression which can be caused by lacking not just mental health but social health. Social health has to do with how you are social and relate to one another. It is also when you get along to your community when you are new to it.  First Impressions and assimilation is important to this. Issues are discrimination, bullying, and being left out.  Last was spiritual health is what you believe and is about life and energy.

When we made products to represent what Family, friends ,and community is to us, I thought and learned true friends ‘ bonds are stronger than glue. They can keep all promises and help each others with problems.  Family to me is like my friends and they are like my blanket of life and last a lifetime. Community is the surroundings around me and makes up my own world. When efforts of a community are put together, it can make a big difference. In this theme I learned the three human relationships relate and I also realized how important these three relationships are.

When we went to rights and responsibilities, I discovered I had a lot more rights than I thought and a lot more responsibilities. One of the most important to me is the freedom of speech, and the most important responsibility is of my actions and choices I make.

In what it means to be humans, I learned that we are made to discover and keep the world right. The one of the most important to me was the fact we were here to make a difference.

 At first I thought of exhibition to do a research project about making a difference to the community but now I learned that it is to make a difference of things we are passionate of such as stopping child labor.
